Windows® XP Setup Guide

To set up your computer's Internet capabilities and Microsoft® Windows® XP™, it is important that it is properly conencted to your telephone line. This will enable your modem to connect to the Internet for set up and registration. The process is outline below.

1. Turn on your peripherals - Turn on your monitor and any other peripheral devices connected to your computer.
   
2. Power up - Press the power button on the front panel of your computer.
   
3. Registration starts - Microsoft® Windows® XP™ registration program starts. Follow a few steps to enable the Internet and multimedia capabilities of this computer.
   
4. Welcome - Welcome to Microsoft® Windows®: o continue, click 'Next'.
   
5. Time zone - What time zone are you in?  Select the appropriate time zone for your area and click 'Next'.
   
6. End user license agreement - Read the agreement, check the 'Yes, I accept it' option and click 'Next'.
   
7. Help protect your PC - Windows® XP™ includes an option to automatically download updates to keep your system current.  Select either option and click 'Next.'
   
8. Computer name - Type the name your computer will have.  This will help to identify your computer on your network.  Click 'Next'.
   
9. Internet connection (optional) - Select one of the options that is available to connect this computer to the Internet and click next.  (Depending on the model, this screen may not appear.)  If you wish to carry out this step later, click 'Skip' at this screen.
   
10. Registration - To register with Microsoft® make sure that the appropriate boxes are checked and click 'Next'.  If you wish to carry out this step later, click 'Skip' at this screen.
    
11. Collecting registration information - Fill in the appropriate information and click 'Next'.  (To move to the next screen, you must fill in the required fields).
    
12. Send information - To register your computer with Microsoft®, click 'Next' to begin dialing.  This is a toll-free call.
    
13. Computer users - Type the name of each person that will use the computer and click 'Next'.
    
14. Thank you! - Congratulations!  You are now ready to use Microsoft® Windows® XP™.  When you are ready click finish and the Microsoft® Windows® XP™ desktop will appear.
